Fort Langley May Day was established in 1922 and is now in its 104th year, hosted by the Fort Langley Lions with a full day of celebrations. This year's May Queen is Jordyn Hildebrand.

Here is everything happening on Monday May 18:

Fort Langley National Historic Site is open all day with hands-on family programs, blacksmithing demonstrations, barrel-making, and a children's scavenger hunt. Free parking in both lots. Free admission for youth 17 and under.

Arrive early, bring lawn chairs, and plan for crowds. This is Fort Langley at its absolute best.

If you live or work near Industrial Avenue, today is the day things get louder.

Pile driving for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension began this morning on Industrial Avenue, with crews working between 200 Street and 203 Street. The work may cause noise and vibrations strong enough to sway light fixtures in nearby buildings, and is the second major pile driving project in the area after the 203 Street station construction already underway.

Major work runs from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and is expected to continue intermittently into early 2027. Pedestrians and cyclists are limited to the north side of Industrial Avenue, and traffic on the road remains eastbound only.

The disruption is real, but so is what is being built. The SkyTrain is coming to Langley, and this is what it sounds like when it does.

If a census form has been sitting on your counter since the mailout arrived, now would be a good time to deal with it.

Participation is mandatory under the Statistics Act. Refusing or neglecting to complete the questionnaire can result in a fine of up to $500. Knowingly providing false or misleading information carries the same penalty.

The good news is you can still complete it online at census.gc.ca using the 16-digit code from your invitation letter or by clicking “obtain a secure access online”. It takes about 15 minutes, the data stays confidential, and it actually matters for Langley specifically.

Langley City Council approved its 2026 Community Grant Program this week, distributing nearly $170,000 across 45 local charities, community organizations, and groups. Recipients include the Langley Fastball Association, which is in the middle of its 50th season, and the Langley Secondary School Dry Grad Committee, which used the funding to ensure every graduating student can attend regardless of financial situation.

"When we invest in them, we're investing in the relationships, creativity, and shared experiences that make Langley City feel like home," said Mayor Pachal.

Beers and Braids | Sunday May 17, noon to 2pm Mad Italian Pizza and Pints, 20728 Willoughby Town Centre Drive. Dads can learn how to braid their kids' hair at this fun social event. Free admission but register in advance through the BC Lower Mainland Parents Hub Facebook page. Participants purchase their own food and drinks. One of the more wholesome things happening this weekend.

Cars and Coffee Spring Meet | Sunday May 17, 9am 6025 Collection Drive, Langley. A casual car meetup for enthusiasts, with coffee and conversation alongside some seriously nice vehicles.
