Langley just got Canada’s first FIFA mini pitch

Here is something to be genuinely proud of. The Township of Langley is now home to Canada's first-ever FIFA Arena mini-pitch, opened through a partnership with FIFA, Canada Soccer, and BC Soccer, right beside the Langley Events Centre.
The mini-pitch is part of a worldwide FIFA initiative to build at least 1,000 pitches across the globe by 2031, designed to create accessible, safe, and sustainable football infrastructure in communities where kids have limited access to quality sports facilities.
It is available to the community at any time, located south of the pickleball courts at the LEC. No registration, no fees. Just show up and play.
The timing is deliberate. Canada is co-hosting the FIFA World Cup this summer and Langley is one of the host communities. The Township has already signaled it wants a second pitch in Aldergrove. Not a bad week for local soccer.
Your lawn is on it’s own this Summer
If you have been watering your lawn, it is time to stop. Stage 2 water restrictions are now in effect across the Township of Langley as of May 1, 2026, and all residential and non-residential lawn watering is prohibited.
What you can still do: water trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetable gardens by hand or drip irrigation any time. Sprinklers for non-lawn plants are allowed between 5am and 9am. Properties not following restrictions in the Township may face a $250 fine per offence, with each day counted separately.
Fyi your lawn will go dormant and brown by mid-summer but it is not dead. It will come back when fall rains return. Your vegetable garden and your trees are what need protecting now.
Pro basketball is back

The Vancouver Bandits are hosting a charitable preseason game at Envision Financial Court at Langley Events Centre on Saturday May 9 at 5pm, facing the Sikh Warriors, a team of high-calibre players that previously competed in the Basketball Tournament on ESPN.
Proceeds benefit the Bandits Community Foundation, which uses basketball to empower youth across BC through grassroots programs and life skills education. A great chance to see the new-look roster before the regular season tips off May 14.
Restaurant of the Week
Naka Bistro - Lao & Thai Cuisine
Most people drive past Naka Bistro on Fraser Highway without a second thought. That is a mistake worth correcting!
This family-owned Langley spot serves authentic Laotian and Thai dishes that are genuinely difficult to find anywhere else in the Lower Mainland.

Standouts include the Nem Khao, a crispy rice salad with a texture you will not forget, the Kao Piak Sen, a traditional Lao rice noodle soup topped with fried garlic and fresh herbs, and the Sai Gok, a Lao sausage that regulars keep coming back for.
The Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles hold their own too if you are playing it more familiar.
