The 25th Anniversary of the Aldergrove Road Race

Filip Funk Photo
If you drove through Aldergrove on Saturday and had to wait for a peloton of cyclists to blow past, first: same. Second: that was the Aldergrove Road Race, a legitimate local sporting tradition that a lot of Langley residents have not heard of.
Organized by Thrashers Bike Club and now in its 25th year, the race winds through an undulating course with long exposed highway stretches, winding country roads, and a sharp finishing kick to the line. Competitors stage at the Aldergrove Bowl on Lefeuvre Road and draw competitive road cyclists from across the Lower Mainland.
It is part of the Thrashers BC Spring Series, which runs through April and May in and around the Township. The next event, the Murchie Mega Mix combining a road race and time trial, is this Saturday April 25.
Langley City wants to slow your street down

A small but meaningful change could be coming to residential roads in Langley City.
City Council voted to develop a Slow Streets Program that would lower speed limits on local neighbourhood roads from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, following the recent adoption of Transportation 2050, the City's long-range transportation plan.
Nothing changes immediately as it works through the 2027 budget process, but the direction is clearly set.
Restaurant of The Week
Otreat Brunch + Bistro

If you have not been to Otreat yet, this is your sign. Tucked into Walnut Grove at 8840 210 Street, this little bistro has built a serious reputation in Langley's brunch scene and earns it with every plate.

The dutch baby is a must, and the steak benny is the kind of thing you think about on the drive home. The wider menu keeps things interesting too: a pulled pork benny, a bulgogi cream pasta served in a bread bowl, earl grey cream croissants, and pastries that people genuinely rave about.
The presentation is a step above what you would expect for a neighbourhood brunch spot, and the vibe inside matches it. Warm, well-decorated, and busy in a good way.
The dog-friendly patio is a nice bonus when the weather cooperates. Weekend tables fill up fast, so joining their online waitlist before you show up is the smart move.

Langley Fastball Turns 50 and the Park was Packed!
Here's a milestone worth pausing for. The Langley Fastball Association kicked off its 50th season earlier this month at Noel Booth Community Park in Langley City, and the turnout said everything.
LFA president Jeff Clegg estimated around 800 people showed up for opening ceremonies. Membership is up this year too. "Growth means we're doing something right," he said.
Fifty seasons of community sport, from kids aged four to adults over forty, all in the same park on a spring afternoon. If you want to get involved, langleyfastball.ca has everything you need.
